Microsoft Works


Introduction


The beginning computer user having little or no exposure to word processing, spreadsheets or electronic address books will experience satisfaction here. You will gain skills you need to easily type letters, organize and sort numbers plus create useful address books. Prerequisites: Basic typing and Windows introduction or equivalent experience.
Module 1 (2 hours) Using Works' Word Processor Creating, Saving & Printing a Document, Spell Checking, Editing Text, Applying Attributes to Text, Setting Tabs, Indenting Text, Cutting & Pasting Blocks of Text
Module 2 (2 hours) Using Works' Spreadsheet Entering & Editing Data, Entering Formulas, Inserting & Deleting Columns/Rows, Aligning Data in Cells, Applying Attributes to Data

Using Works' Database Creating a Database, Adding/Removing Fields, Entering & Editing Data, Modifying a Field Definition, Creating & Printing Mailing Labels, Creating & Printing Envelopes


Microsoft Word


Introduction


So, your computer has Microsoft Word. Take the opportunity here to become proficient with the versatility offered by this software. Prerequisites: Basic typing and Windows introduction or equivalent experience. (3 / 2 hr. Classes)
Module 1 (2 hours)
Covers these topics, MS Word Basics (Screen, Menu, Help, Office Assistant, Changing Views & Clean Screen, Using Templates, Creating, Saving, Opening & Printing Files, Basic Editing, Inserting, Deleting, Undeleting
Module 2 (2 hours)
Covers some editing and formatting features using Wizards &Grammar Checker, Moving & Copying Text (Drag & Drop), Spell Checker, AutoCorrect, Dictionary & Thesaurus, Formatting Text (Fonts, Point Size, Color, Attributes), Adjusting Margins/Line Spacing/Justification
Module 3 (2 hours)
You learn some more formatting techniques and short cuts, using the Format Painter, Indenting, Centering, Right-Aligning Text, Envelopes, Labels, Bookmarks Cut Copy & Paste

Intermediate


Continue developing your skills in Microsoft Word’s by participating in this block. Prerequisites: Word introduction or equivalent experience. (3 / 2 hr. classes)

Creating Borders, Page Numbering, Headers & Footers, Page Setup, Adding borders and Shading,
Module 2 (2 hours)
Find & Replace, Columns (Newspaper), Outlines & Bullet Lists, Changing Bullets, Adding entries to auto text, Working with Tabs
Module 3 (2 hours)
Copying & Moving Between Files, File Management & Properties, Comments, Creating/Editing Templates, Mail Merge and creating labels


Microsoft Excel


Introduction


This is a basic introduction to spreadsheets and how to get started using them. If you have never used a spreadsheet or aren’t sure what one is then this is the class for you.Prerequisites: Basic typing and Windows introduction or equivalent experience.
Module 1 (2 hours)
Spreadsheet basics, Excel overview (screen features, menu, getting Help, Office Assistant), Entering, Editing, Deleting, Undeleting data, Adjusting Column width, Saving, Opening, Printing worksheets, Copying and Moving data.
Module 2 (2 hours)
Creating formulas, inserting/deleting rows/columns, Formatting cells (Alignment, Attributes, Borders), Working with blocks, Using built in functions.
Module 3 (2 hours)
Using the Spell Checker, Creating Charts & Templates, Using Auto Format and the Format painter and Custom cell formats.

Intermediate


Here you will build on the basics of Excel and will learn how to increase Excel’s functionality and improve your efficiency. Prerequisites: Excel introduction or equivalent experience.

Advanced


Now that you have a grasp on Excel it is time automate functions, make your spreadsheets as visualy impresive as your data is and send and receive data from other places. Prerequisites: Excel Intermediate or equivalent experience.

Microsoft Power Point


Introduction


If you want to get started using Power Point for group presentations on paper or live using the computer you should start here. You will add impact to your next presentation.Prerequisites: Basic typing and Windows introduction or equivalent experience.

Intermediate


Increase the impact of your and hold your audience’s interest through pictures and animation. Prerequisites: Power Point Introduction or equivalent experience.

Microsoft Office


The novice user who wants to learn the basics of Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Will appreciate how quickly their skills expand with this block. Covering all the basic aspects of word processing, Spreadsheets and creating presentations these programs offer. It will leave you with a solid sense of accomplishment. Prerequisites: Basic typing and Windows Introduction or equivalent experience.

Word Basics (Accessing Help, Viewing Options, Saving Documents, Spell Checking, Previewing / Printing, Closing / Opening / Creating, Editing (Insert/Deleting/Undeleting), Using Attributes/Fonts/Point Sizes, Margins/Justification, Moving/Copying, Printing an Envelope, Using Templates)
Module 2 (2 hours)
Excel Basics ( Entering/Editing/Deleting Data, Using the Mouse to Select Blocks, Adjusting Columns Widths, Entering Formulas, Using Built-In Functions, Using the Fill option, Aligning / Formatting Data, AutoFormat, Inserting/Deleting Rows/Columns, Margins/Headers/Footers, Printing the Worksheet)
Module 3 (2 hours)
PowerPoint basics (Changing Views, Using the Slide Editor, Working with Objects, Adding Text, Editing the Presentation, Creating a New Presentation, Adding/Deleting Slides, Drawing Objects & Shapes, Adding ClipArt, Running a Slide Show) Prerequisites: Windows 95 Introduction or equivalent experience, Basic typing skills. (3 / 2 hr. Classes)

Fast track Classes

This series of classes are designed for business people who need to learn specific aspects and functions of the software quickly. All require a basic knowledge of the software and of windows. The introduction classes are sufficient or equivalent experience. The outlines for each class are available on request. These classes do not appear on our regular schedule but will be held in an as requested basis, the class size will vary form 3 to 6 students.
